Welcome, and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being here to celebrate this milestone with us. Your presence today is the greatest gift we could ask for.

As a small token of our gratitude, you will find a small envelope at your seat containing a single, unique card. This is not just a piece of art—it is a piece of ancient wisdom, drawn from a Mo deck, just for you.

What is the card you are holding?

The watercolor image in your hands belongs to a 36-card deck I designed based on the ancient Tibetan system of Mo Divination. I've tried my best to keep the traditional meanings and symbolism of the cards whilst also giving them a more western and sometimes modern approach. For example, protection from Tigers is rarely needed in Hebden Bridge and protection from Bandits is often only needed on a Friday and Saturday night in Scunthorpe rather than being the daily threat it was in ancient Tibet. That said I've tried to keep the spirit of the meaning alive across all of the cards.

For centuries, the Mo has been used by Tibetan masters as a profound tool for seeking clarity, overcoming obstacles, and illuminating the path ahead. Rooted in Buddhist philosophy, it is not simply about predicting the future. Instead, it acts as a mirror, reflecting the unseen energies surrounding you in this exact moment and offering compassionate, practical guidance.

Your Personal Message

Traditionally, the Mo is cast to answer a specific question or to receive a general blessing for the road ahead. The single card you received was chosen and set at your table place by random, meaning the message it carries is the exact reflection or blessing the universe felt you needed today.

Personally, rather than a divination as such, I see the Mo as a way of reflecting what is already within. 

Perhaps it is only a gentle nudge, maybe a profound revelation, or just a confirming nod to a choice you are about to make. Take it for what it is, or what it isn’t. Both options can tell us more about ourselves than we knew earlier.

The Ancient Mirror

The Origins of the Practice 

Rooted in the high peaks and monasteries of Tibet, Mo divination is an ancient practice intrinsically linked to Tibetan Buddhism. For centuries, it has been a trusted tool used by spiritual masters, lamas, and everyday people to navigate the complexities of life.

Unlike Western fortune-telling, which often focuses on a fixed, unchangeable future, the Mo is viewed as a mirror. It reflects the current energies, hidden circumstances, and karmic currents surrounding a situation, offering compassionate advice on how to proceed. It is governed by Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, whose insight is said to cut through ignorance and confusion like a flaming sword.

The Cast of the Dice 

Traditionally, the Mo is not performed with cards. When facing a crossroads, seeking healing, or embarking on a long journey, a Tibetan master would enter a state of deep meditation.

Instead of drawing from a deck, they would cast a sacred six-sided die. Inscribed on this die are six sacred syllables: AH, RA, PA, TSA, NA, and DHI.

By rolling two seperate dice, the master receives a unique combination of two syllables (for example, AH and PA). These two rolls point to one of 36 distinct visions or "answers"—a clear, but often poetic voice illuminating the path ahead.

For this celebration, we wanted to share the profound beauty of this system with you. I've  translated those 36 ancient, traditional dice outcomes into the deck of cards you see today. Take them home, leave it here, keep it forever, burn them as an offering, ignore them. It's up to you.
